INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana stays locked in a pleasant October pattern with temperatures running well above normal through at least Friday. Expect afternoon highs in the 70s most days this week, with our warmest readings coming Thursday when temperatures could challenge the daily record.
Temperatures start in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees this morning.
Afternoon highs reach the low to mid 70s under partly sunny skies, about 10 to 15 degrees above the normal high of 61 degrees for late October. Winds remain light from the south at 5 to 10 mph.

Mostly clear skies tonight with lows dropping back into the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. Watch for patchy fog redeveloping in areas typically prone to fog late tonight into early Tuesday morning.
Tuesday brings similar conditions with highs again reaching the low to mid 70s. Expect increasing clouds late Tuesday into early Wednesday with considerable cloudiness overnight, though we remain dry.
Breezy conditions develop midweek. South-southwest winds ramp up Wednesday and Thursday with gusts of 10 to 20 mph expected. This wind flow keeps pumping warm air northward.
Wednesday highs reach the low to mid 70s despite the cloudier skies. Thursday delivers our warmest afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 70s. The record high for October 30 is 81 degrees, set back in 1922. We’ll make a run at it but likely fall a few degrees short.
The dry streak ends as we head into Halloween weekend. Rain showers become possible Saturday night into Sunday, with the most likely onset coming Saturday evening, right around trick-or-treat time.
If you have Halloween plans Sunday evening, keep the rain gear handy. Temperatures remain mild with highs Saturday and Sunday in the upper 60s to low 70s before the rain arrives.
A wetter weather pattern appears likely to develop for early next week following the Halloween weekend system. Temps look to cool a bit, but the long term pattern still looks mild for early November.
